The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Area Command has responded to the destructive wildfires that are affecting northwest Oklahoma City and its surrounding communities and neighborhoods.

The Salvation Army Canteen, a mobile kitchen, was deployed to NW 63rd and Sooner Road near where the wildfires are raging to serve lunch, dinner, drinks and snacks to firefighters, police, EMSA and others affected by the blaze.

Nearly 200 meals were served at lunch to first responders and rescuers. The Salvation Army will also serve dinner to the crews and victims and will stay on site for as long as its needed.

That’s right, folks. The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma’s first ever 5K, 10K and 1 mile fun run is THIS SATURDAY! Starting promptly at 7 a.m., the run takes place at Oklahoma City’s Regatta Park in the Boathouse District.
There’s still time to get involved. Although online registration is closed, you can show up the morning of the race to register. All proceeds go to benefit the Boys & Girls Club and our social services programs.
This is going to be an incredible day. Besides the race itself – and the more than $3,000 in prizes and goodie bag items – The Salvation Army will honor our U.S. Veterans. The Air National Guard are our special guests of the day, and a ceremony will present veterans with a special recognition.
Please join us! Race begins promptly at 7 a.m. Saturday at Regatta Park.

With that in mind, here are a bunch of photos from the Fan Drive we held with Rococo’s restaurant, The Bricktown Rotary and KFOR-TV. Because of them, we have hundreds of fans in stock to give out to the elderly, the ill and disabled and families with infants under 6 months old.

If you know of anyone fitting that description, please send them to us for a fan.

Out of curiosity, how are you staying cool this summer?
